Letter from an Australian Dentist

Edited to note: This is a fraud.

From Faith Freedom:

To Kill an American

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

2005/09/08

You probably missed it in the rush of news last week, but there was actually a report that someone in Pakistan had published in a newspaper an offer of a reward to anyone who killed an American, any American. So an Australian dentist wrote an editorial the following day to let everyone know what an American is ... so they would know when they found one.

"An American is English, or French, or Italian, Irish, German, Spanish, Polish, Russian or Greek. An American may also be Canadian, Mexican, African, Indian, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Australian, Iranian, Asian, or Arab, or Pakistani or Afghan.

An American may also be a Comanche, Cherokee, Osage, Blackfoot, Navaho, Apache, Seminole or one of the many other tribes known as native Americans.

An American is Christian, or he could be Jewish, or Buddhist, or Muslim. In fact, there are more Muslims in America than in Afghanistan. The only difference is that in America they are free to worship as each of them chooses.

An American is also free to believe in no religion. For that he will answer only to God, not to the government, or to armed thugs claiming to speak for the government and for God.

An American lives in the most prosperous land in the history of the world. The root of that prosperity can be found in the Declaration of Independence, which recognizes the God given right of each person to the pursuit of happiness.

An American is generous. Americans have helped out just about every other nation in the world in their time of need, never asking a thing in return.

When Afghanistan was over-run by the Soviet army 20 years ago, Americans came with arms and supplies to enable the people to win back their country!

As of the morning of September 11, Americans had given more than any other nation to the poor in Afghanistan. Americans welcome the best of everything...the best products, the best books, the best music, the best food, the best services. But they also welcome the least.

The national symbol of America, The Statue of Liberty, welcomes your tired and your poor, the wretched refuse of your teeming shores, the homeless, tempest tossed. These in fact are the people who built America.

Some of them were working in the Twin Towers the morning of September 11, 2001 earning a better life for their families. It's been told that the World Trade Center victims were from at least 30 different countries, cultures, and first languages, including those that aided and abetted the terrorists.

So you can try to kill an American if you must. Hitler did. So did General Tojo, and Stalin, and Mao Tse-Tung, and other blood-thirsty tyrants in the world. But, in doing so you would just be killing yourself. Because Americans are not a particular people from a particular place. They are the embodiment of the human spirit of freedom. Everyone who holds to that spirit, everywhere, is an American.

Please circulate this. This is the best instruction for those bigotted Muslims who are filled with the hatred of America and Americans.

I don't think I need to say any more.

Consider it done Nilknarf. We've posted it here.

It is particularly timely with the anniversary of 9/11.

Yo, Nilknarf, a couple of us bloggers have decided to have another Melbourne grogblogging - on Grand Final Eve - Friday 23, at the Clyde on Elgin St in Carlton. Shoot us an email if you want to find out more! timhtrain-at-yahoo.com.au (take out the hyphens and substitute the '@' symbol for the word 'at')

Thanks for that, Dr Ziegler. Always happy to be debunked. I still think the words are worthy, though.

cheers.

I take issue with the closing statement. I feel that could rub people the wrong way... but the rest was good.

There's no Australian dentist, nor did ad to kill an American exist, there aren't more Muslims in the US than Afganistan Blah Blah Blah . It was all made up.

The article was written 9/11/01, by Peter Ferrara, an associate professor of law at the George Mason University School of Law and published in National Review magazine in September, 2001. Its purpose was which was to whip up nationalism and anti Arab sentiment

It's also bogus - read all about this mythical letter at the aobve "Break the Chain" site. There are enough rumors going around the world without adding more to them.

Whoever wrote it, the words are absolutely true.
Who cares who the author is?"

In response to "Keith" from New Zealand, We care. We, as Americans, have the right to be credited properly for our intellectual property. It's called copyrights. You don't steal someone's work, add a fake premise, with a presumed need for a disclaimer built right in, for the purpose of fooling others - especially if fooling them was not even necessary, had the impact of the actual message been the goal of posting it. But it was not the goal, which should concern us enough to wonder what, then, their objective is. We care because this letter has the classic signs of a hoax, and a hoax is created to fool people into Taking mass action, in this case bogging down the bandwidth, preventing timely transmission of important documents. It is intended to cause harm, waste time and money, and it steals the creative property of another human being. And these are common vessels for malware to gain entry into your computer. How can you say the words of the letter are true, as if you stand for the rights of Americans, and in the following sentence declare that one should not care about the rights of others?

I'd think twice before being so readily willing to show your complete lack of discretion before publishing your thoughts.
